Martin D. Reed

January 1, 1943 — January 6, 2021

Martin D. Reed, age 77, passed away with his wife of 50 years and his beloved dogs by his side at his home on the morning of January 6, 2021. Martin was born February 4, 1943 on the same property he grew up on. Martin was a proud veteran who served in the Army on their mechanical team and was often used as an equipment recovery specialist while stationed in Africa and other countries. After serving in the Army, Martin came home to his family’s farm in Pennsylvania. He met and fell for Linda Hiller, who he soon married. Martin and Linda chose to settle on a parcel from his family’s farm and raise a family. Martin was an intelligent and witty man with many “to the point” catch phrases. According to Martin “You either like me or you hate me; I’m okay with both.” Another phrase heard numerous times when asked how he was doing was “Mean, Rotten, and Miserable” with a wink and a smile - always in humor. When he wasn’t working, Martin had a passion for creating and building his own equipment as well as fixing things. He was known for going out of his way to help just about anyone who asked. Martin was predeceased by parents Sanford and Gennie, brothers Sanford and Wynn. He is survived by his sisters: Nancy Schwartz, Phyllis MacMullen, Shirley Ostrander, Brenda Reed; wife Linda and their children: Marty Reed and daughters Hailey and Alexandria; Robin Stafford, her husband Michael and daughters Katelynne and Emelie; Cindy Quay, her husband Alan, son Dalton and daughter Aubrey; Harley Reed, his wife Barbara, sons Matthew and Mitchell and daughter Michaela; Tracy Myers, her husband Scott and daughters Tara and Sommare; Scott Reed, his wife Stephanie, daughters Carolmae and Tori and son Preston. Martin was expecting the birth of his first great-grandchild in June. Arrangements will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Services are entrusted to Jenkins-Howell Funeral Home, Inc. Edward R. Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472. www.JenkinsHowellFuneral Home.com
