Margaret Kohut

January 1, 1929 — July 3, 2017

Margaret “Peg” Kohut, 87, of Waymart passed peacefully Monday evening, July 3, 2017, joining her brother Kendal Parker the day after his passing.  They both passed away at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.  Peg was married to Metro “Bo” Kohut until his death in 1982.

Born October 14, 1929 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Kendal Parker and Margaret “Maggie” Mabel (Clarke) Parker.

Following high school, Peg graduated from Caledonian School of Nursing in Brooklyn, NY. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale and Farview State Hospital in Waymart. She enjoyed golf, bowling, and liked to travel.  Peg was also fond of gardening and painting. Years ago, she volunteered at the Wayne County Public Library.  Peg was also a member of the Waymart Area Historical Society.

She is survived by three daughters:  Gail Kintzer and her husband David of Wilmington, NC, Cathy Taaffe and her husband Christopher of Westminster, CO, and Linda Brussell and her husband Stan of Waymart; 6 grandchildren:  Kristina Oleksak, Jessica Miller, Kali Taaffe-Rawls, Kyle Taaffe, Jackie Brussell and Matthew Brussell; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A joint Funeral and Memorial Service will be held for Peg & Ken on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. in the Jenkins Funeral Home – Edward Howell, Funeral Director, 269 Belmont Street, Waymart, PA 18472 with Pastor Wendy D’Agostino officiating.

Friends and family may visit on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 4:00 – 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home.  An Eastern Star service will be held at 5:30 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Peg’s memory to Dessin Animal Shelter, 138 Miller Drive, Honesdale, PA 18431.

Interment will be Saturday in the Waymart Cemetery at Canaan Corners.
